Express the following with a single exponent:

1034×1053

Open in App
Solution

For any non-zero integer a, where mandn are whole numbers,

amn=am×n

So, (103)4= 103×4 where a=10,m=3,n=4

=1012………………….(1)

Also, 1053 =105×3 where a=10,m=5,n=3

=1015………………….(2)

Therefore, 1034×1053=1012×1015 (From (1) and (2))

we know that, am×an=am+n

Exponents can be added only when the bases are the same.

So, 1012×1015=1012+15 where a=10,m=12,n=15

=1027.

Therefore, 1034×1053=1027.
