Question

Factorise:4xy+xy2

  1. x(4+y)

  2. xy(4+y)

  3. xy(4x+y)

  4. y(4x+y)

Solution

The correct option is B

xy(4+y)

From the given expression,

4xy=4×x×y....(i)

xy2=x×y×y....(ii)

From (i) and (ii), it is clear that x and y are the common factors.

Taking x and y  common from both the terms, we get

4xy+xy2=xy(4+y)

Therefore, the factors of 4xy+xy2 are xy and (4+y).
