Question

Factorise : $$ 5x^2 -16x -21 $$

Solution

Given : $$ 5x^2 -16x-21 $$
We can further write it as
$$ 5x^2 -16x-21 $$$$ =5x^2 +5x -21x -21 $$
by taking out the common terms
$$ 5x^2 -16x-21 $$$$ = 5x(x+1)-21(x+1) $$
So we get,
$$ 5x^2 -16x-21 $$$$ =(5x-21)(x+1) $$
