Fe2(SO4)3 is emprical formula of a crystalline compound of iron. It is used in water and sewage treatment to aid in the removal of suspended impurities. Calculate the mass percentage of iron, sulphur and oxygen in this compound.

Mol. wt. of Fe2(SO4)3=2× at. wt. of Fe+3× at. wt. of S+12× at. wt. of oxygen

=2×56+3×32+12×16=112+96+192=400

% of Fe=112400×100=28%

% of S=96400×100=24%

% of O=192400×100=48%
