Find the kinetic energy of $$5$$ liters of a gas at STP, given the standard pressure, is $$1.013 \times 10^5\, N/m^2$$.


Solution

$$P=1.013 \times 10^5\, N/m^2,\,V=5\,litres=5 \times 10^{-3}\,m^3$$
$$E=\dfrac{3}{2}PV$$
$$=\dfrac{3}{2}(1.013 \times 10^5\, N/m^2)(5 \times 10^{-3}\,m^3)$$
$$=7.5 \times 1.013 \times 10^2\,J$$
$$=7.597 \times 10^2\,J$$
This is the required energy.
