∴ Ratio of the first quantity (1000 mL) to the second quantity (600 mL)$=\frac{\mathrm{First}\mathrm{quantity}}{\mathrm{Second}\mathrm{quantity}}$
$$\begin{gathered} =\frac{1000}{600} \\ =\frac{1000÷200}{600÷200} \\ =\frac{5}{3} \\ =5:3 \end{gathered}$$
