Find the squares of the following numbers
(i) $$\dfrac {3}{8}$$         (ii) $$\dfrac {7}{10}$$          (iii) $$\dfrac {1}{5}$$         (iv) $$\dfrac {2}{3}$$       (v) $$\dfrac {31}{40}$$


Solution

(i) $$3/8 $$
    $$(3/8)^{2}=3/8\times 3/8=(3\times 3)/(8\times 8)=9/64$$

(ii) $$7/10$$ 
     $$(7/10)^{2}=7/10\times 7/10=(7\times 7)/(10\times 10)=49/100$$

(iii) $$1/5$$ 
     $$(1/5)^{2}=1/5\times 1/5=(1\times 1)/(5\times 5)=1/25$$ 

(iv) $$2/3$$ 
      $$(2/3)^{2}=2/3\times 2/3=(2\times 2)/(3\times 3)=4/9$$ 

(v) $$31/40$$ 
      $$(31/40)^{2}=31/40\times 31/40=(31\times 31)/(40\times 40)=961/1600$$
