Step 1:- Substitute $x = 3$ in the equation $2 x^{2} + a x + 6 = 0$
Step 2:- $2 (3)^{2} + 3 a + 6 = 0$
$\Rightarrow 18 + 3 a + 6 = 0$
Step 3:- $24 + 3 a = 0$
$\Rightarrow 3 a = - 24$
$\Rightarrow a = - 8$
