Find the value of x and y:
$\frac{x}{2} + \frac{3 y}{5} = 4 \frac{7 x}{8} - \frac{3 y}{8} = - \frac{1}{8}$

Solution

Let us take following simultaneous equations:
$\frac{x}{2} + \frac{3 y}{5} = 4 \frac{7 x}{8} - \frac{3 y}{8} = - \frac{1}{8}$
Now convert these equations into linear equations:
$\frac{(5 x + 6 y)}{10} = 4$
$\Rightarrow 5 x + 6 y = 40$ -----(i)
$\frac{(7 x - 3 y)}{8} = - \frac{1}{8}$
$\Rightarrow 7 x - 3 y = - 1$ -----(ii) ------ mutiply with (2)
Now,by elimination method
x = 2 and y = 5.
