Five years hence, the age of Jacob will be three times that of his son. Five years ago, Jacobs age was seven times that of his son. What are their present ages?

Solution

The correct option is C $$Jacob =40years  , son=10years$$

$$Let\>the\>present\>age\>of\>Jacob\>=\>x\>years\\and\>that\>of\>his\>son\>=\>y\>years\\(x+5)=3(y+5)\\or\>x=3y+10\\$$

$$and\>(x-5)=7(y-5)\\x-5=7y-35\\40=4y\\\therefore\>y=10\>years\>and\>then\>x\>=\>30+10=40\>years$$

So, the correct option is 'Jacob $$= 40$$ years, son $$= 10$$ years'.
