Solution

Cuscuta derives nutrition from the host plant and is of no benefit to the host. Therefore, it is a parasite. If you notice closely, you can see that the Cuscuta is not green in color which means it lacks the pigment chlorophyll. Thus, it can not perform photosynthesis. This is the reason why it extracts nutrients from the host.
