Proteins are long chains of amino acids joined together by peptide bonds. The peptide bonds are formed by condensation reaction between two amino acids. During the condensation reaction, one molecule of water is lost between amino and carboxylic group. The carboxylic group loses hydroxyl ion and the amino group loses one proton and one water molecule is released per peptide bond formation.
