Solution

The correct option is A Both the statements are correct
All living organisms use DNA as their genetic material with some viruses using RNA. These DNA sequences are compared and studied to see the relatedness among individuals. So, when gene sequences of gorillas and chimps were studied and compared with humans, the study revealed that the differences in the gene sequence of humans and chimps was 1.2% and that of human and gorillas was 1.6%.
Also, another similar study of extra nuclear DNA of chimps and gorillas was studied and compared with humans. The difference between humans and chimps was found to be 9.6% and that of gorillas with humans is 13.1%.
So, overall these percentage of differences show that the chimps are a more closely related species to humans than gorillas.
