Question

Give one example of an oxidation-reduction reaction which is also :

(a) a combination reaction

(b) a displacement reaction

Open in App
Solution

(a)

2H2+O22H2O

Here, Oxygen is added so it is oxidation reaction and also Hydrogen is added so it is reduction reaction.

Therefore, it is redox reaction.

and also here two substance are combined to make single product so it is a combination reaction.

(b)

Displacement reaction is a also redox reaction, as in this reaction, the less reactive reactant gets reduced and the more reactive reactant gets oxidized.

In the following reaction Fe displaces Cu from CuSO4 .Fe gets oxidised while Cu gets reduced.

Fe(s)+CuSO4(aq)FeSO4(aq)+Cu(s)
