The British had to face the challenges from Marathas, Sikhs and Tipu Sultan (Mysore).

After the decline of the Mughal empire, The political volume was filled by number of independent powers such as Marathas, Sikhs and Mysore of Tipu sultan. All the three regional powers wanted their independence from British East India Company because of that British fought three different wars with these regional powers.
