Solution

(1) The energy demand of the body increases during vigorous exercise. The body needs more oxygen to meet this demand. Hence the rate of breathing increases during exercise in order to supply more oxygen to the body.

(2) Translocation is the process of long distance transport of food materials from leaves to all other parts of the plant body through special tissues called phloem. The food is made in the green leaves of the plants. All other parts of plants need this food for their growth and maintenance. Also, excess food needs to be stored in organs like roots, fruits and seeds. Thus, translocation of food from leaves to various parts of the plants is needed in all higher plants.

(3) The plants are kept in the dark before determining the factors essential for photosynthesis to de-starch them i.e., the plant should consume all its unutilized reserve food material. Plants synthesize and store food after carrying out photosynthesis. So, when all the factors needed for photosynthesis will be available, only then will the plant be able to form starch again. Then only can you determine the role of different factors in the process of photosynthesis.

(4) It is necessary to separate oxygenated blood from deoxygenated blood in mammals, because the energy requirement of mammals is very high. They use energy constantly in order to maintain their body temperature and to carry out various regular metabolic functions. Separation of oxygenated blood from the deoxygenated blood increases the efficiency of the use of oxygen.
