Solution

The correct option is D 2,4,1,3
The rumour about the greased cartridges used in Enfield rifles enraged Indian sepoys. In retaliation, a sepoy called Mangal Pandey attacked a British officer, and was hanged for his crime. This led to a sepoy mutiny which spread far and wide. The sepoys asked Bahadur Shah Zafar to lead the revolt, and pronounced him 'Shahenshah-e-Hindustan'. Villagers and other civilians soon joined the uprising, turning it into a full fledged civil rebellion against the British.
