Solution

Oxidization:

  • The process in which oxygen is being added or hydrogen gets removed is called the oxidation process.
  • Here in the given reaction,H2S which is being oxidized to HCl due to the removal of hydrogen.

Reduction:

  • The process in which hydrogen is being added or oxygen gets removed is called the Reduction process.
  • Here in the given reaction, Cl2 which is being reduced to HCl due to the addition of hydrogen.

Oxidizing agent:

  • The substance which helps in oxidation and itself gets reduced is called an oxidizing agent.
  • Here in the given reaction, Cl2 is the oxidizing agents as,H2S is oxidized by Cl2 and,Cl2 itself is being reduced to HCl.

Reducing agent:

  • The substance which helps in reduction and itself gets oxidized is called a reducing agent.
  • Here in the given reaction,H2Sis a reducing agent as Cl2 is reduced byH2S and itself is being oxidized to HCl.

Hence, in the given reaction, these substances are : (1) Oxidised - H2S; (2) Reduced- Cl2 ;(3) The oxidizing agent- Cl2 ;(4) The reducing agent-H2S.
