Hard water may contain dissolved calcium bicarbonates. When this water is boiled, calcium carbonates are formed and get deposited at the bottom of the boilers. This deposition is called scaling and are bad conductors of heat. Thus, it takes more time for water to boil.
Scaling could develop cracks and pressure could increase inside the boiler which might lead to dangerous boiler blasts. Hence, hard water is neither economical nor safe to be used in industries.
