Solution

Anisole reacts with acetyl chloride in the presence of anhydrous aluminium chloride as catalyst to form 2-methoxy acetophenone and 4-methoxy acetophenone. The reaction is Friedel Craft's acylation reaction (an electrophilic aromatic substitution reaction). Methoxy group is ortho - para directing group.
