Question

How are physical quantities classified as scalars and vectors?

Solution

Physical quantities are classified into two categories:
  • Scalar quantities - The physical quantities which have magnitude but no direction are called scalar quantities or scalars. E.g. length, mass, volume etc.
  • Vector quantities - The physical quantities which possess magnitude as well as direction are called vector quantities or vectors. E.g. force, torque, acceleration etc.
