The process of removing insoluble solids from a liquid by using a filter paper is known as filtration

Procedure -

• Sugar is soluble in water whereas sand is insoluble in water.
• Therefore, add some water to a mixture of sand and sugar.
• Stir it, till all the sugar is dissolved in water.
• While the sand remains undissolved.
• Filter the solution using filter paper.
• Sand will remain behind as a residue and sugar solution is obtained as filtrate.
• Now, the sugar solution is evaporated, so that all the water molecules escapes out as vapors. And crystals of sugar will be obtained.
