Question

How does Le Chatelier's Principle Explain Shift in Equilibrium?

Open in App
Solution

Le Chatelier's principle: This principle states that if the condition of any reaction changes, then the equilibrium will also change, and the position of equilibrium will be according to the conditions of the reaction.

Effect on equilibrium shift :

  • When the concentration of the product decreases, the shift will be towards the right which means towards the reactant.
  • Equilibrium shift depends upon the concentration, temperature, or pressure. Due to this new equilibrium will be obtained.

Therefore, According to Le Chatelier's principle, the equilibrium shifts towards the reaction where the number of moles is less.
