Question

How does the angle of minimum deviation of a glass prism vary. If the incident violet light is replaced by red light ? Given reason.

Solution

Since reflective index $$\times \dfrac { 1 }{ wavelength\quad of\quad light } $$
hence when wavelength of light increase bu use of red light instead of violet light, Reflective index increases which is directly proportional to minimum deviation as,
$$\mu =\dfrac { sin\left( \dfrac { A+Smin }{ 2 }  \right)  }{ sin\left( A/2 \right)  } $$
