Question

How is charging by friction different from charging by induction? [4 marks]

Open in App
Solution

Charging by Friction Charging by Induction
When two different bodies are rubbed together,
there is a transfer of electrons from one body to the other.
When a charged body is brought close to another body,
it induces opposite charge on the other body. (2 marks)
The body which loses electrons becomes positively charged.
The other which gains the electrons becomes negatively charged.
Since no electron transfer takes place between the two bodies,
the overall charge on each body remains the same. (2 marks)
