Question

How is isopropyl chloride prepared using. Chlorine gas?

Open in App
Solution

I don’t think you would generally prepare isopropyl chloride by using chlorine gas. If you try to add chlorine to propylene, you get dichloropropane. In general, it’s easiest to start with isopropanol and replace the -OH group (doable with HCl and ZnCl2), where chlorine is more of an oxidizer that would give you other products.
