Question

How many grams of Na2SO4 can be produced from 260 gm of 90% pure NaCl when treated with excess of H2SO4
  1. 255 gm
  2. 173 gm
  3. 214 gm
  4. 284 gm

Solution

The correct option is D 284 gm
2NaCl+H2SO4Na2SO4+2HCl
117 gm                        142 gm
Since,
117 gm NaCl produces 142 gm Na2SO4=
1 gm NaCl produces=142117 gm Na2SO4
So, 90% pure NaCl of 260 gm has (260×90100=234 gm) NaCl and will produce = 142117×(234)=284 gm Na2SO4
