Question

How many polymers are formed by condensation polymerisation:
Teflon,Polyethene, Nylon-6, Nylon-66, Polystyrene, Terylene, Orlon, Protein

Open in App
Solution

Condensation polymers are any kind of polymers formed through a condensation reaction- where molecules join together by losing small molecules as by products such as water or methanol.
Terylene
In the formation of terylene water molecule is lost.

Nylon 6
Nylon-6 is formed from caprolactam by ring opening at the first step, then by losing water molecules, it undergoes self condensation to form Nylon-6.

Protien
Protiens are formed by amino acids. Amino acids join together by losing water molecules leading to the formation of peptide bonds. It is formed by joining the amino group of one amino acid to the carboxyl group of next amino acid.

Nylon -6,6
It is formed by condensation of it's monomers by losing water molecules leading to the formation of Nylon-6,6.

Nylon-6,Nylon -6,6 , Terylene, protein
