It is the medium of plant growth and supports different types of living organisms on the earth.
The soil is a living system.
It takes million of years to form soil upto a few centimeters in depth.
Soil is formed by a process called Weathering
Weathering is a process which occurs as a result of the action of wind, water or climatic changes.
It is the process that breaks down the large rocks into smaller pieces.
These small pieces of rocks form soil by mixing with decaying plants and animal parts

Factors responsible for the formation of soil :
  • Relief,
  • Parent rock and Bed Rock,
  • Climate,
  • Vegetation, and
  • Other forms of life and time.
