Question

How to balance the chemical equation of photosynthesis

CO2+H2OC6H12O6+H2O+O2

Open in App
Solution

CO2+H2OC6H12O6+H2O+O2

Balance carbon by multiplying CO2 by 6.

6CO2+H2OC6H12O6+H2O+O2

Since, we have 13 oxygen atoms and 2 hydrogen atoms on the left side.

And on the right side, we have 14 hydrogen atoms and 10 oxygen atoms.

Thus, to balance both, first balance the hydrogen atoms on both sides by multiplying H2Oby 9 on left side and multiplying by 3 on right side.

6CO2+9H2OC6H12O6+3H2O+O2

Now, we have 12+9 = 13 oxygen atoms on left and 6+3+2 = 11 oxygen atoms on right.

Thus, we will multiply O2 by 6.

Therefore, the balanced equation is

6CO2+9H2OC6H12O6+3H2O+6O2
