Question

How to separate a mixture of sand and sugar and I want only sugar.

Open in App
Solution

To separate mixture of sand and sugar

Sand does not dissolve in water but sugar is soluble in water. So to separate mixture of sand and sugar we dissolve it in water. The sugar dissolves in water leaving behind sand.

Now we filter it. Sand is collected over filter paper and sugar passes through it, in

form of solution. This solution is called filtrate. Sugar is obtained by evaporation of solution (during which water is removed in the form of vapours leaving behind solid sugar as residue).
