Open in App
Solution

Different separation techniques are present depending on the property of the substances to be separated

Separating funnnel

  • This type of funnel is used to separate immiscible liquids. i.e liquids that are not miscible with each other
  • The liquid with lower density form the upper layer and the liquid with higher density form the lower layer, when the stopper is opened the lower layer can be collected and upper layer remains within the funnel
  • Oil and water can also be separated by this technique
  • Kerosene and water being immiscible with each other can be separated by using a separating funnel
  • Kerosene will form the upper layer and water will form the lower layer can this can be separated by opening the stopper of the separating funnel
