Sedimentation and Decantation Method:

• For a while, the mixture is left alone.
• Sand, being heavier and insoluble in water, sinks to the bottom of the container after some time.
• Water is now placed into a separate container to separate it from the sand.
• Decantation is the process of separating liquid from solid and other immiscible (non-mixing) liquids by eliminating the liquid layer on top from the solid or liquid layer underneath.

Filtration Method:

• A sand and water mixture is run through a filter paper (a filter with very fine pores).
• Larger sand particles are trapped by the filter paper and separated from the water.
