We will let $a$ be your age now.
Your age $6$ years ago would then be expressed as $a - 6$ years
Twice your age six years ago can be expressed as $2 (a - 6)$ or $2 a - 12$
Therefore, the equation can be written as,
$a = (2 a - 12) - 3$
$∴ a = 2 a - 15$
$∴ a + 15 = 2 a - 15 + 15$
$∴ a + 15 = 2 a$
$∴ a + 15 - a = 2 a - a$
$∴ 15 = a$
$∴ a = 15 y e a r s$
