Identify the anion present in the following compounds:
Compound Z which on reacting with dilute sulphuric acid liberates a gas which turns lime water milky, but the gas has no effect on acidified potassium dichromate solution.

The compound Z is Na2CO3.It reacts with dil.H2SO4 and liberates a colourless gas which does affect potassium dichromte solution. The gas evolved is carbon dioxide. Hence, carbonate radical may be present.
