Solution

The correct option is C (A)-(3), (B)-(1), (C)-(2), (D)-(4)
At the time of cell division, a chromosome is observed to contain two identical halves, the chromatids which are held together at one point called the centromere. Depending on the position of the centromere, chromosomes can be classified into four types.
  • Metacentric chromosomes: The centromere is present at the centre (median).
  • Submetacentric chromosomes: The centromere is present slightly away from the centre of the chromosome i.e., the centromere is submedian.
  • Acrocentric chromosomes: The centromere is present very close to one end of the chromosome (almost near the tip).
  • Telocentric chromosomes: The centromere is present at the terminal end of the chromosome (at the tip).
