Law of Definite Proportions is illustrated by the above statement. According to the law of definite composition, all the sample of any chemical compound has the same composition of elements by mass.

Water is a compound which always consists of the same two elements hydrogen and oxygen combine together in the same constant proportion of 1:8 by mass (1 part by mass of hydrogen and 8 parts by mass of oxygen). Hence water is taken from anywhere will have the chemical composition of 8:1 of oxygen and hydrogen respectively by mass.
