$\therefore N=$ no. of men working

$D=$ no. of workdays

$\therefore N\alpha \frac{1}{D}\Rightarrow N=\frac{K}{D}$ where $K$ is constant

$\therefore N_1=36men,D_1=12days$

$\therefore K=N_1{D}_1=36\times 12=432$

$\therefore$ $N_2=9men\Rightarrow D_2=\frac{K}{N-2}=\frac{432}{9}=48days$
