Question

If a cell A with DPD 4 bars is connected to cell B, C, D whose osmotic pressure and turgor pressure are respectively 4 and 4, 10 and 5, 7 and 3 bar, the flow of water will be:
  1. B to A, C and D
  2. A to B, C and D
  3. A to D, B and C
  4. C to A, B and D

Solution

The correct option is A B to A, C and D
DPD = OP-TP
Cell A DPD = 4 bars
Cell B DPD = 4-4 =0 bar
Cell C DPD = 10-5 = 5 bars
Cell D DPD = 7-3 = 4 bars
Water moves from low DPD to high DPD. Cell B has the lowest DPD so water moves from B to A, C and D.
