If the Y chromosome lacks the SRY gene the sex of the child would be female and development of uterus and fallopian tubes will take place. SRY gene is responsible for the development of functional testes.
The SRY is located in the short arm of the Y chromosome and codes for a factor called testis determining factor(TDF).
