Open in App
Solution

Given:a2+b2+c2=24 ...1ab+bc+ca=-4 ...2Now,a+b+c2=a2+b2+c2+2ab+bc+ca Using the identity: a+b+c2=a2+b2+c2+2ab+bc+ca=24+2-4 From 1 and 2=24-8=16Since, a+b+c2=16Therefore, a+b+c=±4.

Hence, if a2 + b2 + c2 = 24 and ab + bc + ca = – 4, then a + b + c = ±4.
