Question

If α,β are the zeros of the polynomial x2+6x+2 then (1α+1β) = ?

(a) 3             (b) -3              (c) 12              (d) -12

Solution

If α,β are the zeros of the polynomial x^2+6x+2

α+β=-b/a=-6/1=-6

αβ=c/a=2/1=2

then
(1/α+1/β)=(α+β)/αβ
=-6/2=-3

(b)  -3 is correct option
