Solution

The correct option is A 23

We analyse the shape in terms of full-filled, half-filled, more than half-filled and less than half-filled squares.

We consider the more than half-filled squares as full squares and ignore the less than half-filled squares.

Number of full-filled squares ( in yellow) = 16

Number of more than half-filled squares (in blue) = 4

Number of half-filled squares (in green) = 6

Area of the irregular shape
= (Number of full-filled squares +
Number of more than half-filled squares+
12× Number of half-filled squares) sq units.

= (16 + 4 +12×6) sq units

= (16 + 4 + 3) sq units

= 23 square units
