Question

If the 9th term of an A.P. be zero, then find the ratio of its 29th  and 19th  term.
  1. 1 : 2

  2. 2 : 1

  3. 1 : 3
  4. 3 : 1

Solution

The correct option is B

2 : 1

Given that 9th term = a + (9 - 1) d = 0 a + 8d = 0
29th term = a + (29 - 1) d = a + 28d
19th  term = a + (19 - 1) d = a + 18d

Now ratio of 29th and 19th terms =a+28da+18d=(a+8d)+20d(a+8d)+10d=20d10d=21.
