Question

If the cost of 1m of cloth is Rs. $$\cfrac { 1 }{ 3 } \times \cfrac { 1 }{ 2 } +\cfrac { 1 }{ 3 } \times \left( -\cfrac { 1 }{ 4 }  \right) $$, find the cost of $$\cfrac { 9 }{ 11 } $$ meters cloth.

Solution

Cost of 1 m cloth $$=\dfrac{1}{3}\times \dfrac{1}{2}+\dfrac{1}{3} \times \dfrac{-1}{4}$$

                            $$=\dfrac{1}{6}-\dfrac{1}{12}$$

                            $$=\dfrac{1}{12}$$

Hence, the cost of $$\dfrac{9}{11}$$ m cloth = $$\dfrac{9}{11} \times \dfrac{1}{12}=\dfrac{9}{132}=\dfrac{3}{44}$$ Rs.
