By plotting these groups of individuals three different types of age pyramid are formed, namely expanding, stable, and declining.

For the declining age pyramid, the number of individuals in reproductive age is more than pre-reproductive age. This type of pyramid represents low fertility, low death, high life expectancy and increased ageing of the population.
