Question

If the points $$A(4,3)$$ and $$B(x,5)$$ are on the circle with center $$O (2,3),$$ find the vale of $$x$$.


Solution

Since A and B lie on the circle having center O
$$ \therefore AO = OB$$  [radius of circle is same every where]
$$\Rightarrow \sqrt { { \left( 4-2 \right)  }^{ 2 }+{ \left( 3-3 \right)  }^{ 2 } } =\quad \sqrt { { \left( x-2 \right)  }^{ 2 }+{ \left( 5-3 \right)  }^{ 2 } } $$
$$\Rightarrow 2=\sqrt { { \left( x-2 \right)  }^{ 2 }+4 } $$
$$\Rightarrow 4={ \left( x-2 \right)  }^{ 2 }+4$$
$$\Rightarrow { \left( x-2 \right)  }^{ 2 }=0\Rightarrow x-2=0\Rightarrow x=2$$
