The correct option is B10cm Let the length of two parallel chords AB and CD on the same side of the centre O of a circle be 6cm and 8cm respectively. Thy are 1cm apart from each other. The perpendicular drawn from the centre will bisect them at the points M and N respectively. ∴AN=BN =12AB=3cm and CM=DM=12CD =4cm Let the radius of the circle be R cm =OD =OB and OM=xcm ∵OD2=OM2+MD2 ⇒R2=x2+42 ....(1) and OB2=ON62+NB2 ⇒R62=(x+1)2+32 ....(2) (x+1)2+32=x2+42 ⇒(x+1)−x2−x2=42−32 ⇒2x+1=(4+3)(4−3) =7 ∴x=7−12 =3 and R2=32+42 =52 R=5cm
