Question

If x+1 is a factor of the polynomial f(x)=ax4+bx2+c, then which of the following can be the possible values of a, b and c?
  1. 2, 3, -5
  2. -3, 4, 5
  3. 1, -1, 2
  4. 3, -4, 2

Solution

The correct option is A 2, 3, -5
Given, f(x)=ax4+bx2+c
Since (x+1) is a factor of f(x).
x+1=0x=1
Now, f(1)=a(1)4+b(1)2+c=0
a+b+c=0
Putting a = 2, b = 3 and c = - 5 we get,
2 + 3 + (-5) = 5 - 5 = 0
