Question

If x2 is a factor of p(x)=ax4, q(x)=bx2+3x+9 and r(x)=3xc, what is the value of a+4b+c ?

Your Answer
A
12
Your Answer
B
-12
Correct Answer
C
-13
Your Answer
D
13

Solution

The correct option is C -13
(x2) is a factor of p(x)=ax4
p(2)=0
2a4=0
a=2

Also,
(x2) is also a factor of q(x)=bx2+3x+9
q(2)=0
4b+12+9=0
4b=21

Also,
(x2) is also a factor of r(x)=3xc,
r(2)=0
3(2)c=0
c=6

a+4b+c=221+6=13
